- While constructing any type of structure, the first RCC member casted at site is footing. Now let us say that you are working as a site engineer on a building construction project and there you are planning to cast footings. Now your boss may ask you to calculate the material quantities required to cast the footings and may ask you to check whether sufficient material is available at site or not to complete the work
- Now in that case let us see how you have to calculate the quantities like concrete (Cum), cement (Bags), Sand (Cum) & Aggregate (Cum) practically. (We will cover steel quantity calculation separately in another blog)
- Dimensions of the footing are given below:
- Length – 1275mm
- Width – 1050mm
- Depth – 350mm
Calculations:
- Concrete Quantity (Cum) – Length x Width x Depth
- (1275/1000) x (1050/1000) x (350/1000) = 0.468 Cum
- (Here we have divided each dimension by 1000 to convert them from mm to meters)
- Cement Quantity (Bags) – 0.468 x 6 = 2.808 Bags
- (Here we have multiplied the concrete quantity with 6 as practically 6 number of bags will be required to cast 1 cum of M20 grade concrete)
- Sand Quantity (Cum) – 0.468 x 0.425 = 0.198 Cum
- (Here we have multiplied the concrete quantity with 0.425 as practically 0.425 cum sand will be required to cast 1 cum of M20 grade concrete)
- 20mm Aggregate Quantity (cum) – 0.468 x 0.57 = 0.266 Cum
- (Here we have multiplied the concrete quantity with 0.57 as practically 0.57 cum 20mm aggregates will be required to cast 1 cum of M20 grade concrete)
- 12mm Aggregate Quantity (cum) – 0.468 x 0.28 = 0.131 Cum
- (Here we have multiplied the concrete quantity with 0.28 as practically 0.28 cum 12mm aggregates will be required to cast 1 cum of M20 grade concrete)
Hope you have got clarity now on how to calculate footing quantities practically. If you have any query or doubt related to above calculations, put it in the comment box below. I will be personally replying on it along with the solution at the earliest.
